|EMW-115||Bigeyes nei||This category includes species in the family Priacanthidae (Bigeyes or catalufas) and genus Priacanthus.|
From FAO Fishstat, 70% and 30% capture of "bigeyes nei" in 1999-2007 was from the Pacific and Indian Oceans respectively. Using fishbase.org, the 2 smallest and largest species distributed in one of these oceans, and that are indicated to be of interest to fisheries besides aquarium interest, are as follows:
Priacanthus zaiserae. Max size: 25.5 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Red bigeye (Priacanthus macracanthus). Max size: 30.0 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Moontail bullseye (Priacanthus hamrur). Max size: 45.0 cm TL (male/unsexed); common length : 40.0 cm TL male/unsexed
Red bigeye is taken as the smallest species due to the lack of available size data on Priacanthus zaiserae. Although not distributed in the Pacific or Indian Oceans, Atlantic bigeye was used as the largest due to lack of fish size data for Priacanthus hamrur:
Atlantic bigeye (Priacanthus arenatus). Max size: 50.0 cm TL (male/unsexed); common length : 35.0 cm TL male/unsexed; max. published weight: 2,850 g.
