From fishbase.org, the smallest and 2 largest species in the genus Upeneus that are both of commercial or subsistence use and distributed in the Pacific or Indian Ocean are as follows: Bensasi goatfish (Upeneus japonicus). Max length : 15.7 cm SL male/unsexed; common length : 20.0 cm TL male/unsexed Band-tail goatfish (Upeneus arge). Max length : 36.5 cm TL male/unsexed; common length : 25.0 cm TL male/unsexed. Finstripe goatfish (Upeneus taeniopterus). Max length : 33.0 cm TL male/unsexed; common length : 25.0 cm TL male/unsexed. Upeneus taeniopterus is used as the largest species due to lack of size information for Upeneus arge. |
