A very important development was the holding of a Symposium on Fish Welfare and Fisheries, hosted by the Fisheries Society of the British Isles at a fisheries conference in Japan, 2008. The following papers on fish welfare in commercial fisheries, from this symposium, were published in the December 2009 issue of the Journal of Fish Biology.
